CETMAR was founded in 2001 as an initiative from the Regional Government (Xunta de Galicia) and the then Ministry of Science and Innovation. They decided to launch an institution for among other goals, guiding the maritime-fisheries sector, the research centres and the administration in the common way of the R&D&I.
CETMAR develops its activity at local, national, European and international scopes, favouring with its actions to the public and private sectors linked to the sea, its resources and the marine environment as a whole.
CETMAR is a public Foundation that works to improve the marine environment, its resources and all the sectors involved, encouraging innovation and environmental, social and economic sustainability.

We manage R&D&I and development cooperation projects, technical assistance and service contracts, being the coordination one of our main tasks.
We develop sector studies and we give specialist advice from a multidisciplinary perspective.
We design and offer activities on training, communication, dissemination and technology and knowledge transfer.
We build and participate in marine research and technological development networks and platforms.
We develop, integrate and test technologies to be applied in the marine sector and in related activity sectors.
We revitalize the participation of stakeholders in the marine innovation system and promote the collaboration among them -academy, industry, administration and society.
