Infrastructure projects imply considerable investment and have a lifetime of several decades. Their design and make will be influenced by environmental, climatic, technical and societal conditions as well as they influence their natural and societal environment and sometimes the habits of their users. "Infrastructure" comprises buildings, transport infrastructure like roads, bridges, waterways and railway system, urban infrastructure like sewers, network systems like power grids, telecommunication and assets like power plants, waste treatment facilities and private production facilities of any kind.
Owners, developers and operators of infrastructure need to be enabled to assess relevant risks of upcoming climatic conditions, appraise adaptation measures and monitor their implementation and effectiveness in a cost-aware and meaningful way.

The system’s main components have been individually tested, and an initial integration has been completed.
Access is provided by web services. End users gather relevant information on their project in a structured, comprehensive way and are guided through the process by the digitized workflow. First action is marking a project´s location on a map. An overview of “data packages” for the selected location is provided – besides climate data in several resolutions these may be land use, topography, census data etc. At the end of the screening process a report summarizes hazards, risk, impact and adaptation options and the end user can decide to connect with experts for working on most critical risks. The marketplace provides a connection appropriate for the type of project, detected hazards, additional required data in better resolution etc.
Limitations/conditions under which this innovation does not work or is less effective
Critical success factor is the availability of localized data in appropriate quality and conveniently to access and process. http://clarity-h2020.eu https://myclimateservices.eu/showcases/ https://myclimateservices.eu/about-us/ https://myclimateservices.eu/news/
Added value
The streamlined assessment process improves the decision making in the course of project planning for responsible project managers from several disciplines (planning, finance and insurance, tendering and procurement, construction etc.). It assures gathering of comprehensive information and not to miss potentially critical issues in terms of climate matters and diligent project management in terms of realistic budget planning and timelines. Most important fact is that there is no climate change related expertise necessary to assess an infrastructure process – the end user is experienced in other fields influencing the success of the process. The work with experts will be facilitated by having relevant information ready from the beginning – a fact that will also help the expert to work more efficiently. Experts will benefit from the marketplace by enlarged access to projects fitting their expertise and distributing their data and models. The growing availability of structured data on project types and shared knowledge on risk adaptation and successfully implementing measures will be a benefit for the entire urban climate risk adaptation eco-system. Especially (smaller) cities with limited resources and experience will benefit from a standardized digitized environment as they can become more easily part of the eco-system. The marketplace provides opportunities for all innovators and purveyors to promote and distribute products and services related to climate adaptation (e.g. greening roofs and facades, construction appliances changing albedo etc.).
