The system’s main components have been individually tested, and an initial integration has been completed.
In cooperation with Franconia Tourism Association, Flussparadies Franken, local water suppliers and authorities we will increase the number of Refill Stations along the route and encourage as well as consult municipalities on how to build public drinking fountains (indoors and outdoors) and make them visible to thirsty guests. The goal is for cyclists to be able to refill their bottles every 10 km on average along the way.
Refill Stations are places (e.g. bakeries, shops or public buildings) where people can refill their bottles with tap water for free, signalled by a blue sticker. Considering rising temperatures and an enormous amount of plastic waste through bottled water, Refill Stations will be part of a future oriented, climate-resilient region.
