The B.EL.DTM sensor provides rapid, accurate water quality testing for bacteria, with results in under 3 minutes and 99% accuracy. Portable and user-friendly, it integrates IoT and machine learning, offering on-the-go testing without lab equipment.
- The need for a laboratory, laboratory equipment and incubation for 24 to 48 hours for the total viable count test in water samples. With our solution we shorten the test time to 3 minutes.
- The need for a laboratory, laboratory equipment and incubation for 24 or 48 hours for the detection of E. coli and Enterococcus in water samples. With our solution we shorten the test time to 3 minutes.

The system’s main components have been individually tested, and an initial integration has been completed.
BioScanR offers rapid, portable water testing for total viable counts and bacteria like E. coli and Enterococcus. Utilizing advanced biotechnology, it delivers results in just three minutes, eliminating the need for lab equipment and incubation. This real-time, on-site capability enhances water quality monitoring, enabling frequent and reliable testing without geographical constraints. By ensuring timely detection of contaminants, BioScanR supports environmental protection and public health, improves tourism appeal by ensuring lake safety, and helps maintain high water quality standards.
EMBIO’s Biosensor Tool is based on a cell-based biosensor technology known as the Bioelectric Recognition Assay (BERA). The concept of BERA-based biosensor systems originally developed by SK EMBIO Diagnostics Ltd, and acquired, through an exclusive license by the members of FOODSCAN Consortium (GA FP7-SME-2011-286442), which developed further the technology. The new methods for the rapid detection of E. coli and Enterococcus in water samples, will be developed exclusively and independently by EMBIO. EMBIO is operating from 2016, 100% under the new management and is using multiple projects (national and European) to achieve this development. Nevertheless, the IP belongs to the company, as hardware, software and biotechnology components are all developed in the last 3 years solely by EMBIO.
Regarding the detection of Enterococcus, limitations arise if the lake has high population levels of other microorganisms, as this may interfere with the detection of the target microorganism, potentially leading to false positive or negative results. Additionally, the use of biosensors can limit the shelf life of the test to one month.
