In Portugal we had another tragedy, the second this year (2017), ending in a 106 death toll due to wild fires, only this civil year. There is no innovation in our Forest defence and it seems that year after year, the actions taken keep turning ineffective and every summer, Portuguese watch, defenceless, the repeated national catastrophes.

Our approach consists in showing the good side of the drone utilization for forests, in surveillance, forest conservation mapping, environmental crimes vigilance, among so many other possible roles, trough a constellation of small drones(+ 100) constantly surveying and gathering DATA. It is also important to inform Authorities and Population that there is already fully tested technology on solar and non-solar RC drones/planes that can fly for 8+ hours for accomplish this missions.

As explained, this project consists in showing the good side of the drone utilization for forests, in surveillance, forest conservation mapping, environmental crimes vigilance, among so many other possible roles, trough a constellation of small drones (+100 ) that can fly over 8 hours, continuously connected by 3G/Lte, constantly surveying and gathering data.
Limitations/conditions under which this innovation does not work or is less effective
More recently drone utilization has been under several legal restrictions on civil use, that can create some extra challenges, but we are aware that a platform that aims to defend a country from yearly catastrophes will be considered a public interest, on the legal exclusions available.
Added value
Drone utilization on forest CARE is now seen as a realistic usable solution. Governments are now admitting drones can be a powerful and more accessible way to monitor the forests as recently admitted by Spain or Russian governments. So this makes the perfect timing of investing and developing such a solution taking part on the future of Forest and Nature defense. There are already countless solutions, open-source and proprietary, that allow and Drone/RC plane to flight in autopilot and controlled way, with very specific objectives.

The main components of the system have been tested separately, and an initial integration exercise has been conducted.
