Our innovation combines climate and water monitoring of Lake Ohrid with social innovations. It uses advanced equipment to track lake conditions and engage local communities, supporting sustainable tourism and addressing climate impacts.
Supplementing with valuable data for monitoring lake waters under new climate change conditions, identifying the main factors affecting:
- Its quality and quantity while harmonizing and sharing data with institutions and neighboring countries for the lake's protection.
- The development of spin-off methods to incorporate and promote the best ideas for lake preservation.
- Increasing the economic and touristic value of the lake and its surrounding landscape.
- A physical, multidimensional incubator, which will remain under municipal observation.
Addresses: Heavy precipitation / pluvial floods, Storm/High winds speeds, Social impact
See more information about this level and the TRL and SRL levels.
The system’s main components have been individually tested, and an initial integration has been completed.
The base methodology consists of adaptation and mitigation measures for climate change using a new monitoring system with integrated technology for measuring water quality and quantity in Lake Ohrid. It involves open data distribution through spin-off ideas and an online system, engaging interested stakeholders both within and beyond the Pogradeci region to promote nature protection.
Our project will be developed in partnership with an NGO known as the Berat Regional Development Agency (RDAB). Established as a foundation in 2000, RDAB originated from a UNDP initiative in 1996. It promotes the development of small and medium-sized enterprises by building civil society capacity and implementing programs targeting economic and cultural development.
The RDAB of Berat manages customized training programs, develops advanced business plans, and administers grant schemes for its clients. It also publishes studies and research, and conducts workshops to improve the socio-economic development of the region. RDAB works as a subcontractor with well-known international organizations such as GIZ Albania, USAID, UNDP, and UNICEF, as well as various foreign embassies and Albanian institutions like the Ministry of Finance and AKPA.
The current mission of RDAB Berat includes:
– Encouraging economic development and the SME sector in Albania.
– Developing civil society, fostering local democracy, and promoting good governance.
– Contributing to the national strategy for jobs and growth.
We cannot identify any limitations/conditions on the effectiveness of our innovation.
