The solution is a method for wildfire hazard analyses and forest fuel management planning. Forest fuels management implies a significant allocation of human and financial resources, so their planning should aim to optimize the effects on change of fire behavior due to the implementation of management measures. Examples include developmental test and evaluation (DT&E) of the system in its intended weapon system to determine if it meets design specifications.

Currently this planning methodology was applied in some areas in Portugal, in production forests and conservation areas protection.
Some of the planned management proposals were carried out, and there is some information about the performance in operational environments. However wasn’t made a monitoring and consistent evaluation of the post-planning and implementation phase. Next works require the collection and evaluation of data relating to operational effects on the spread of fire and suppression actions in real fire conditions.
How does it work?
The proposed approach is based on studying fire patterns and fire regime in the areas of intervention, focusing treatments in locations where the effect will be greater, allowing the performance of suppression means safely and with greater likelihood of success, and use techniques to maximize the effectiveness of treatments in time, such as the use of prescribed burning or change of land use.
